The Tony Award-winning production Parade returns to Southern California with its
original Los Angeles Ovation Award-winning cast. A stirring Broadway musical about a miscarriage of justice in early 20th-century Georgia, ‘Parade’ will be presented at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA).
A heart-wrenching musical, PARADE is based on one of the most publicized and hotly contested trials in American history. Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jewish factory manager, is wrongly accused of raping and killing a 13-year- old girl. Already guilty in the court of public opinion, the defendant faces the dramatic courtroom trial, which is further sensationalized by the media. The case stirred up anti-Semitic tensions in Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
In a profound profile of the hatred rooted in the fear of those who are different, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Alfred Uhry and composer Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years) brilliantly re-create the triumphs – and failures – of this real-life saga.
Broadway’s Davis Gaines, best known to audiences for his portrayal of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, Gaines will portray local court prosecutor Hugh Dorsey in 3DT’s PARADE.
