“Sweet Caroline – The Musical Journey of Neil Diamond” starring Jay White pays homage to the timeless legend who has rocked the global stage with a bevy of pop hits. The tribute show is on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
Quintessential legend Neil Diamond’s career spans five decades, with record sales soaring over 125 million globally. The Grammy-Golden Globe-American Music award winner and Songwriters and Rock ‘n’ Roll Halls of Famer has wooed legions of music fans worldwide with hits such as Love on the Rocks, Hello Again, I’m a Believer, Solitary Man, America, and the timeless Sweet Caroline. The Songwriters Hall of Fame recently honored Diamond with the organization’s highest honor: the Johnny Mercer Award, which is given to Songwriters Hall of Famers who have established a history of outstanding creative works.
For more than 25 years, White has been impersonating one of music’s biggest icons. His singing career began in the late ’70s, when he performed in the theatrical production Music Man and a Doo-Wop group called The Voices. By 1982, he was the lead vocalist for a Top 40 band.
In 1983, White began performing as Diamond in a Detroit club, which led to a role in the then new Legends in Concert show in Reno. In 2002, White began his eight years as a Las Vegas showroom headliner at the Riviera, sparking national recognition and praise. In 2008, formal validation came from Hollywood director Ron Howard, who cast White to play Neil Diamond in the Oscar-nominated film Frost/Nixon. White was also the lead in the musical drama Beautiful Noise. Diamond himself gave approval for the likeness and urged White to continue the impersonation.
